— In a moment that fans across Raiderland have long anticipated, Texas Tech University announced today that former quarterback Graham Harrell will be officially inducted into the prestigious Texas Tech Ring of Honor at Jones AT&T Stadium this fall.

The ceremony, scheduled to take place during the Red Raiders’ marquee home game against Oklahoma State, will enshrine Harrell’s name alongside Tech icons such as Michael Crabtree, Zach Thomas, and Donny Anderson — solidifying his legacy as one of the most prolific passers in college football history.

Harrell, who wore the scarlet and black from 2005 to 2008, rewrote the Texas Tech and NCAA record books under head coach Mike Leach’s revolutionary Air Raid offense. He finished his career with 15,793 passing yards and 134 touchdown passes, both of which ranked near the top nationally at the time of his graduation.

But beyond the numbers, Harrell delivered moments that Red Raider fans will never forget — none bigger than the legendary last-second touchdown to Michael Crabtree to defeat No. 1 Texas in 2008, a game that catapulted Texas Tech into the national spotlight and became an instant classic in college football lore.

“That play changed the trajectory of our program,” said Texas Tech Athletic Director Kirby Hocutt. “Graham wasn’t just a great quarterback — he was the face of a fearless, innovative era that proved Texas Tech could go toe-to-toe with anyone in the country.”

Now the offensive coordinator at Purdue, Harrell remains one of the most respected minds in college football. Despite his coaching journey taking him across the country, his heart, he says, never left Lubbock.

“Texas Tech gave me everything,” Harrell said in a statement. “To have my name on that stadium, where we battled every Saturday, where we shocked the world — it’s humbling. I share this honor with every teammate, every coach, and every fan who believed in us.”

Current Red Raider players, some of whom grew up watching Harrell’s highlights on YouTube, say the honor is more than deserved.

“He’s a legend,” said starting QB Behren Morton. “We all wear this jersey knowing what guys like him built here.”

With his name now etched in Tech immortality, Graham Harrell joins a legacy defined by grit, firepower, and West Texas pride — a fitting tribute to a quarterback who gave Lubbock its loudest roar.
