He later became a head coach with the Boston Celtics, leading them to the 2022 NBA Finals in his first year — a rare feat in league history. Today, he leads a promising Houston Rockets squad with the same passion, discipline, and vision that have defined his entire career.

“He’s one of the true global ambassadors of the sport,” said Masai Ujiri, president of the Toronto Raptors. “What Ime has done for grassroots basketball in Africa, the U.S., and everywhere in between — it’s generational.”
Accepting the award, Udoka remained humble. “Basketball gave me purpose, and my mission has always been to give that purpose back, especially to those who might not see a path forward,” he said. “This honor means more than words can say.”
