Lubbock, Texas — An Epochal Open Letter from Quarterback Will Hammond to the Texas Tech Red Raiders, Fans, and Entire Raider Nation

I want to take this moment, with a full and grateful heart, to say thank you. What this past year has meant to me is far beyond football, beyond wins and losses, beyond stats or accolades. It’s been a year of growth, purpose, and belonging — and none of it would’ve been possible without your unwavering support.

From the moment I stepped foot in Lubbock, I felt something different. This place is more than just a college town — it’s a community, a family. You welcomed me with open arms, lifted me when I needed strength, and pushed me to become not just a better quarterback, but a better man.

To Coach McGuire and the entire staff, thank you for believing in me. For challenging me. For showing me that leadership is about more than just calling plays — it’s about humility, hard work, and commitment to something greater than yourself. You’ve created an environment here that’s not just enabling — it’s empowering.

To my teammates — my brothers — I’m proud to wear the scarlet and black with you. We’ve trained in the heat, battled through pain, and stood together in both victory and adversity. You’ve taught me what it means to be resilient, to compete with heart, and to represent the Double T with pride.

And to the fans of Raider Nation — wow. There are truly no words big enough. From game days at Jones AT&T Stadium to the little moments — handshakes in the community, kind words on campus, the messages on social media — you’ve shown me a kind of loyalty and love that goes beyond the game. When you say “Wreck ’Em,” you mean it with soul. And I feel that soul every time I take the field.

I also want to thank the entire Lubbock community — your energy, your kindness, and your relentless spirit are unmatched. You’ve made this more than just a football experience; you’ve made it a life experience. One that I will carry with me long after the final whistle blows.

This past year was about laying a foundation. And now, the work continues. I promise to keep grinding, to keep learning, and to keep giving you everything I’ve got — on and off the field. We’re not done yet. Not even close. The future is bright in Lubbock, and I’m honored to be part of it.

Thank you for making Texas Tech home. Thank you for making me believe — not just in myself, but in something bigger.

With respect, pride, and unwavering gratitude,

— Will Hammond

Quarterback, Texas Tech Red Raiders
