ESPN REPORT – Edmonton, Alberta

The Edmonton Oilers have made a key addition to their forward group, signing veteran winger Andrew Mangiapane to a two-year, $7.2 million contract, the team announced late Tuesday evening. The deal carries an average annual value of $3.6 million.

Mangiapane, 28, spent the 2024–25 season with the Washington Capitals, recording 14 goals and 14 assists across 81 games. Prior to that, he spent the bulk of his career with the Calgary Flames, where he posted a career-high 35 goals during the 2021–22 campaign. He has appeared in 498 NHL games, registering 123 goals and 120 assists for 243 points.

Oilers General Manager Jeff Jackson emphasized the value Mangiapane brings to a team already built around elite talent like Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl.

> “Andrew brings experience, scoring touch, and a relentless work ethic,” Jackson said. “He’s the kind of player who thrives in playoff-style hockey—he battles, he goes to the net, and he knows how to finish.”

The signing follows Edmonton’s recent push to bolster secondary scoring after falling just short in the 2025 Stanley Cup Final. With depth proving critical in postseason success, the Oilers are banking on Mangiapane to strengthen their middle-six forward group and contribute on both special teams.

Known for his high motor, aggressive forechecking, and net-front presence, Mangiapane fits the mold of a hard-nosed winger capable of complementing skill players or anchoring a third scoring line. He’s also praised for his defensive responsibility and ability to play in all situations.

> “I’m excited to join a team that’s on the cusp of something special,” Mangiapane said in a statement. “Playing against Edmonton for years, I’ve seen how dynamic this group is. I can’t wait to get to work and do my part to help bring a Cup to this city.”

The Oilers’ forward corps already includes Zach Hyman, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Evander Kane, and Dylan Holloway, among others. Mangiapane’s versatility on both wings will give head coach Kris Knoblauch additional lineup flexibility throughout the season.

In the playoffs, Mangiapane has logged 37 career games, with 7 goals and 7 assists. His grit and postseason experience could prove invaluable as the Oilers continue to chase hockey’s ultimate prize.

With this signing, Edmonton adds not just a skilled winger, but a player with the drive and edge to make a difference in tight games—exactly what they’ll need if they’re to make another deep playoff run in 2026.
