𝑬𝑺𝑷𝑵 𝑹𝑬𝑷𝑶𝑹𝑻: Elon Musk Proposes Renaming Hard Rock Stadium to ‘Tesla Field’ in Bold Sponsorship Move — Miami AD Dan Radakovich Pushes Back

Coral Gables, FL — In a surprise move that blends Silicon Valley ambition with South Florida swagger, tech billionaire Elon Musk has reportedly approached the University of Miami and its athletic department with an aggressive long-term sponsorship offer: rename Hard Rock Stadium to Tesla Field and allow Tesla-led design teams to overhaul the Miami Hurricanes’ iconic jerseys.

Sources close to the discussion say the proposal included a 20-year, multimillion-dollar naming rights deal, with additional perks including electric vehicle charging stations at every parking bay, autonomous shuttle service to and from the stadium, and an annual “Futures of Football” tech summit hosted on-site.

But Athletic Director Dan Radakovich has said no — at least for now.

“Miami has always been proud of its tradition and identity,” Radakovich told ESPN. “We’re not opposed to innovation, but we’re not in the business of letting someone else redefine what The U stands for.”

According to insiders, Musk’s proposed rebranding would extend beyond signage. Uniform concepts shared with Miami officials included sleek, minimalist designs, LED-lit helmet trims, and even a prototype jersey embedded with cooling tech powered by solar nano-fibers. One concept featured the Tesla “T” subtly replacing the traditional U on the chest — which insiders say was a non-starter with the Hurricanes brass.

“The vision was… futuristic,” one staff member said. “But at a certain point, it stopped being Miami football and started feeling like a Mars pregame show.”

Still, the offer raises real questions about the future of college athletics, where media rights, branding, and tech partnerships are playing an increasingly outsized role. Musk, whose companies have already dipped into entertainment, AI, and infrastructure, reportedly sees college sports as “under-leveraged cultural capital.”

This isn’t Musk’s first flirtation with sports. In recent years, he’s teased interest in owning a professional team, floated ideas for robotic referee assistants, and even joked about sponsoring a “Space Bowl” between Earth’s best and a hypothetical Martian squad. Whether serious or promotional in nature, his Miami pitch suggests a deeper interest in real-world influence over athletic institutions.

For now, though, the Hurricanes are holding firm. Hard Rock Stadium — which hosts both the Hurricanes and the Miami Dolphins — remains unchanged.

But in a world where stadium names change as fast as crypto prices and jersey designs chase TikTok virality, some wonder if it’s only a matter of time before Tesla, or someone else, drives college football into an entirely new era.
