Newcastle Set Sandro Tonali Asking Price –

But ‘Figure Does Not Scare’ Arsenal and Manchester United

Premier League giants Newcastle United have reportedly placed a huge price tag on Italian midfielder Sandro Tonali ahead of the summer transfer window, but fresh reports suggest that neither Arsenal nor Manchester United are backing away from the potential deal.

Tonali, who joined Newcastle from AC Milan in 2023, remains one of the most highly-rated midfielders in European football despite a difficult first season in England that included suspension issues and intense media attention. The 26-year-old has since returned strongly, showing flashes of the quality that convinced Newcastle to invest heavily in him in the first place.

Now, with Arsenal and Manchester United both searching for midfield reinforcements, Tonali’s name has quickly moved near the top of their wish lists.

According to reports close to the situation, Newcastle are unwilling to let the Italian leave cheaply and have reportedly set an asking price believed to be well above £90 million. The Magpies see Tonali as a central part of their long-term project under manager Eddie Howe and would only consider offers that truly test their resolve.

However, the massive valuation is said to have done little to discourage Arsenal and Manchester United.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is believed to admire Tonali’s composure, tactical intelligence, and ability to control matches from deep midfield positions. The Gunners are looking to build a squad capable of finally winning the Premier League title and competing strongly in the UEFA Champions League next season. Tonali’s experience in both Serie A and the Premier League makes him an attractive target for the North London side.

Manchester United, meanwhile, are also expected to strengthen their midfield after another inconsistent campaign. With uncertainty surrounding several players in Erik ten Hag’s squad, Tonali is viewed as someone who could bring stability, aggression, and leadership to the center of the pitch.

Sources suggest United officials believe the player’s age and quality justify Newcastle’s valuation, especially in today’s inflated transfer market where elite midfielders are becoming increasingly difficult to secure.

Despite the growing speculation, Newcastle remain publicly confident that Tonali will stay at St James’ Park. Club insiders insist there is no pressure to sell, especially with the Saudi-backed ownership continuing to support the club financially. Newcastle are also determined to compete for European qualification next season and understand losing one of their best midfielders could damage those ambitions.

Tonali himself has remained calm amid the transfer rumors. The Italian international recently spoke about his happiness in England and his desire to repay Newcastle supporters for their patience and support during a challenging period in his career.

Still, with Arsenal and Manchester United monitoring the situation closely, the story is far from over.

The coming weeks could prove crucial as clubs begin formal preparations for the summer window. If either Arsenal or Manchester United decide to submit an official bid, Newcastle may soon face their biggest transfer test of the year.

For now, Newcastle’s message is clear: Sandro Tonali is not for sale unless an extraordinary offer arrives. But judging by the growing interest from two of England’s biggest clubs, that offer may not be far away.
