In a significant shift within NBC Sports’ college football broadcasting lineup, Jac Collinsworth, son of NFL veteran Cris Collinsworth, has been replaced by seasoned broadcaster Dan Hicks as the play-by-play announcer for Notre Dame football games. This change, officially announced by NBC on Tuesday, marks a return to familiar territory for Hicks, who previously held this role from 2011 to 2016.
Jac Collinsworth, 29, had been the voice of Notre Dame football alongside analyst Jason Garrett since 2022. Despite his enthusiasm and familial ties to the network, his appointment was met with some surprise due to his limited play-by-play experience at the time. Before joining NBC, Jac spent three years at ESPN, contributing to programs like “Sunday NFL Countdown” and “NFL Live.” Upon his return to NBC in 2020, he took on roles including reporting for “Football Night in America” and hosting “Gold Zone” on the Peacock streaming platform. He also contributed to NBC’s coverage of the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Dan Hicks, 62, brings a wealth of experience to the broadcast booth. Having been with NBC since 1992, Hicks has established himself as the network’s leading golf commentator and has a diverse portfolio that includes NFL and NBA games. His return to Notre Dame football is anticipated to bring a seasoned perspective to the broadcasts.
Jason Garrett, former NFL head coach, is expected to continue his role as the game analyst alongside Hicks. Additionally, NBC has positioned Noah Eagle and Todd Blackledge as its primary college football commentary team, focusing mainly on Big Ten matchups. This duo made notable appearances last season, calling two of Notre Dame’s primetime home games and participating in NBC’s coverage of the NFL Wild Card weekend during the 2024 playoffs.
The upcoming college football season is set to kick off with Notre Dame facing Texas A&M on Saturday. Fans and analysts alike are eager to see how the new broadcasting teams will enhance the viewing experience and bring fresh insights to the
games.
