In December 2023, the Red Hot Chilli Peppers were forced to cancel their performance at KROQ’s Almost Acoustic Christmas show in Los Angeles. The band announced that an anonymous member had received an injury, necessitating a six-week performance sabbatical. They promised fans that they will make up for the lost gig by rescheduling it for March 2, 2024, at the same venue.
This wasn’t the first time health difficulties disrupted the band’s itinerary. They cancelled a concert in Glasgow just hours before it started in July 2022 owing to an undisclosed sickness. The band expressed tremendous disappointment and offered to work on rescheduling the event, urging supporters to keep their tickets.
Previously, in May 2016, frontman Anthony Kiedis was hospitalised owing to “complications from the intestinal flu,” which forced the cancellation of a performance at California’s Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre. Drummer Chad Smith expressed the band’s grief and concern for Kiedis’ health while emphasising their dedication to their fans.
The band’s U.S. tour was postponed in 2012 after Kiedis underwent surgery to remove a crushed sesamoid bone and repair a damaged flexor tendon in his foot. This treatment necessitated a period of rehabilitation, resulting in rearranged tour dates.
These incidents demonstrate the band’s demanding performance schedule and commitment to providing high-energy shows. Despite these hurdles, the Red Hot Chilli Peppers have always prioritised their health to ensure that they can continue to connect with fans all around the world.
