To my dad, Stan Lathan; to our amazing supporters over the years; and to the entertainment industry as a whole,
As I consider a journey defined by passion, sacrifice, creativity, and the steadfast support of so many amazing individuals, I write this letter today with a great deal of thanks, profound admiration, and overwhelming love.
Thank you for being more than just a great personality in entertainment, my father, Stan Lathan. I am grateful that you have been a continual source of inspiration, a mentor, a guardian, and a beacon of hope throughout my life and work.
I knew you only as Dad, a guy whose commitment, self-control, insight, and vision subtly influenced not only the stories people watched on television screens but also the principles that shaped our family, long before the world realized how talented you were behind the camera.
I learned excellence from your work ethic.
I learned grace from your humility.
I learned strength from your perseverance.
I learned what true brilliance looks like by seeing you produce timeless work while inspiring others along the way. In addition to yourself, you opened doors for other writers, artists, performers, and dreamers whose voices ought to be heard.
That legacy transcends honors and accolades.
I want to express my gratitude to the fans for all of their support, encouragement, and compassion over the years. Without the individuals who continue to believe in the art we do, none of these journeys would have the same significance since entertainment is based on connection.
More than you might ever know, every message, shared story, standing ovation, and expression of gratitude matters.
In this field, there are times when your self-assurance and spirit may be put to the test. Expectations can seem high, fame can be daunting, and the pressure to change all the time might seem never-ending. However, the encouragement we received during each chapter served as a reminder of the original significance of storytelling.
It has to do with people.
It has to do with feeling.
It’s about uniting people.
Thank you to the entertainment industry for fostering an atmosphere that allowed generations of artists to dream big and flourish. The advancements gained throughout the years were not accidental. It originated from trailblazers, visionaries, and brave people who were prepared to break down boundaries and create opportunities for others.
I shall always be proud of my father’s contribution to the foundation’s construction.
As his daughter, I am incredibly appreciative of the example he set as a man of integrity, compassion, and vision in addition to being an artist. Beyond movie sets, studios, and theaters, his influence continues to inspire people.
Some people abandon their careers.
Others have an impact.
And Dad, your influence will live on in every person you touched, every tale you contributed to, and every hope you made seem achievable.
With unending love, appreciation, and respect,
Sanaa Lathan 🤍
