An Epochal Open Letter from Head Coach Kalani Sitake to the BYU Cougars Football Team, Fans, and the Entire Cougar Community
Dear Cougar Nation,
As I pause to reflect on this remarkable journey, I am filled with deep emotion, humility, and, most importantly, thankfulness. This letter is more than a message; it is a personal homage to each and every one of you who has helped shape my career, character, and calling as head coach of Brigham Young University Football.
When I first returned to BYU, where I previously proudly wore the blue and white as a player, it felt like home. But I never realized how much this role would affect me—not just as a coach, but also as a spouse, parent, mentor, and man. Over the years, you—our fans, alumni, players, coaches, and administration—have given me something I will never be able to repay: your trust.
To the young men who have placed their souls on the line for BYU Football, you are the program’s lifeblood. I’ve had the privilege of coaching fantastic athletes, but more importantly, I’ve walked with amazing people. You have sacrificed, struggled, endured, and succeeded with honor and passion. Thank you for believing in our mission, ideals, and each other. You have made me proud every day.
Thank you to my coaching staff and support crew for your tireless work, belief in our vision, and unwavering pursuit of perfection. The hours you put in, many of which go undetected, make all the difference. Together, we’ve created something genuinely unique, founded on faith, family, and football.
Thank you to the fans that fill LaVell Edwards Stadium with electric energy, travel from near and far to cheer us on, and raise us up in prayer and support throughout both successes and storms. Cougar Nation isn’t like any other. Your enthusiasm, commitment, and unshakable confidence in what we represent has propelled us further than we could have gone alone.
Thank you, BYU administration and university leadership, for entrusting me with this holy role. The combination of faith and football here is unique, and it has allowed us to create a program that not only competes but also creates leaders of character and conviction.
Finally, to the whole BYU community—students, alumni, families, and the countless others who wear blue—you are the heart and spirit of this adventure. You’ve welcomed me and my family with open arms and helped us every step of the way.
As we look ahead to new challenges and opportunities, please know that my gratitude is deep, and my commitment to you is unwavering. BYU is more than just a program; it serves a purpose. And I’m forever grateful to be a part of it.
With love and thanks.
