BREAKING NEWS: New Horizons for Penn State – Linebacker Room Looks to the Future After Ta’Mere Robinson’s Departure

State College, PA – Change is part of the game, and Penn State football is embracing it with an eye on the future. The Nittany Lions are turning the page in their linebacker room following the departure of promising young talent Ta’Mere Robinson, a Brashear High School graduate, who has entered the NCAA transfer portal.

Robinson, a former 4-star recruit from Pittsburgh, was highly touted coming out of high school and seen as a key piece of Penn State’s defensive future. While his time in Happy Valley may have been shorter than many hoped, it’s clear his decision was made with personal and athletic growth in mind. His move opens the door for a fresh wave of talent to rise within one of the most tradition-rich position groups in all of college football.

Head Coach James Franklin addressed Robinson’s departure in a brief statement, wishing the young linebacker success on his next journey.

“We appreciate everything Ta’Mere has given to this program and respect his decision to pursue new opportunities,” Franklin said. “Our linebacker room is strong, and we’re excited about the guys who are stepping up.”

With Robinson’s exit, attention now shifts to the next generation of Linebacker U. Several names have already emerged as players to watch during spring practices. Sophomore Tony Rojas and redshirt freshman Kaveion Keys have turned heads with their athleticism and football IQ, while veterans like Abdul Carter continue to provide leadership and big-play capability.

Carter, who quickly became one of the top defensive players in the Big Ten last season, is expected to anchor the unit as Penn State gears up for a highly anticipated 2025 campaign. Alongside him, Rojas brings speed and sideline-to-sideline range, while Keys offers versatility and toughness—traits that define the Nittany Lions’ linebacker legacy.

Defensive coordinator Manny Diaz has also praised the depth of the unit, hinting that more rotational looks and hybrid roles could emerge as Penn State leans into its defensive strengths.

“The talent in that room is exceptional,” Diaz noted. “We’re confident in our ability to develop playmakers and keep our tradition alive.”

Fans have responded to the news with a mix of appreciation and optimism. Social media was filled with messages of support for Robinson and excitement for the rising stars who now have an opportunity to shine.

One fan wrote, “Wishing Ta’Mere all the best wherever he lands. Once a Lion, always a Lion.” Another added, “The linebacker room is stacked. Can’t wait to see these young guys step up!”

As Penn State continues spring workouts and prepares for summer camp, the theme is clear: growth, opportunity, and trust in the system. While departures are never easy, they often open doors for others—and in Happy Valley, those doors lead to greatness.

Stay tuned for updates on Penn State’s linebacker development, defensive schemes, and all things Nittany Lion football as the road to the 2025 season begins.
