Mary Earps’ Epochal Open Letter to Paris Saint-Germain, the England National Team, Fans, and the Global Football Community.
Dear PSG, Lionesses, Supporters, and the Entire Football Family.
As I sit with a peaceful heart and a full mind, I feel compelled to communicate what words have long attempted to convey. This message is more than just a farewell or a celebration of a single chapter; it is a love letter to every person, teammate, coach, fan, and experience that has shaped my career journey. Thank you – genuinely and sincerely — from the training pitch to the global stage, from doubt to triumph.
To Paris Saint-Germain.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you to the club that welcomed me with open arms and unshakeable belief.
Wearing the PSG badge has been one of the greatest honours of my life. From the electrifying nights beneath the Parisian sky to the sombre grind behind the scenes, I felt the power of a family united in purpose. To the coaches who pushed me, the medical team who looked after me, the backstage staff who worked diligently, and the great teammates who became sisters, your belief inspired me. You helped me improve not only my technique but also my spirit.
In this wonderful city, I discovered a rhythm. I discovered freedom. I discovered a version of myself that I had only seen in dreams. Thank you for the affection, the challenge, and the opportunity to perform at my best.
To the English National Team
To the Lionesses: my second home, my eternal pride.
Wearing the England shirt, standing tall with a nation’s optimism behind us, has been the greatest honour of my life. From my first call-up to hoisting cutlery on the international stage, every moment has been loaded with pride and emotion. You’ve been my inspiration and strength.
This team is more than just athletes. We’re fighters. We are leaders. We are sisters. Thank you to every player, coach, and staff member who supported me – both when the world wasn’t watching and when it was. You saw me. You uplifted me. And I hope I have done the same for you.
To the fans.
You’ve been my heartbeat.
From Manchester to Paris, Wembley to Sydney, from the television screens to the front rows, your support has seen me through every save, setback, and celebration. You reminded me of why I fell in love with this game. Your messages, banners, and shouts were never forgotten. In the loneliest moments, they gave me purpose. In the brightest moments, they made everything sweeter.
Thank you for allowing me to share my story with the global football community.
As a woman in football, particularly as a custodian, I know the journey has not always been easy. I understand what it is to battle for recognition, silence doubt with action, and remain prepared even when the call does not come. But the game has changed, and so have we—stronger, braver, and louder.
To the next generation of viewers: You belong in this game. You have been spotted. You are valued. You are capable of greatness.
Looking ahead.
I’m grateful for wherever the road takes me from here. Every match, every training session, every cheer from the stands is ingrained in me. It has built me.
This isn’t a farewell to the game; it’s a moment of reflection, a thank you to the foundations that enabled the future.
With my whole heart,
Mary Earps –
