If Boston loses Game 5, the Celtics’ big man will be gone this offseason.

The Boston Celtics and their supporters were devastated by their team’s defeat to the New York Knicks on Monday night. In addition to losing the game and falling behind 3-1 going into a crucial Game 5, the Celtics also lost their star player, Jayson Tatum, to a non-contact injury in what many believe to be a torn Achilles

Tatum was in excruciating pain on the floor and refused to put any weight on his right foot. After that, he would need to be helped into the tunnel and then placed in a wheelchair.

Fans are even more devastated because Tatum has played in at least 64 games for the Celtics in each of his eight seasons. As the face of Boston sports, he has gained the affection of Celtic supporters and helped the city win an NBA championship the previous season.

The Celtics will keep fighting and playing for their wounded star in the hopes that Tatum’s injury isn’t as bad as it appeared. Game 5 in Boston on Wednesday night could either be the final game of the Celtics’ title defense or it might lead to an incredible comeback from a 3-1 deficit.

This Celtics big man is playing himself out of Boston in this series against the Knicks, win or lose, on Wednesday night. He hasn’t played a role in this entire second-round matchup, despite the money the team is paying him.
