Cowboys’ Update on Stephen Jones’ $200 million contract offer for Micah Parsons

The Dallas Cowboys and star linebacker Micah Parsons are currently engaged in contract negotiations that could result in a historic deal. Reports indicate that the two parties are discussing a potential extension worth approximately $200 million, which would make Parsons the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history, surpassing Ja’Marr Chase’s recent $161 million contract .

Despite media speculation suggesting a handshake agreement had been reached, Parsons publicly refuted these claims via social media, asserting that no deal has been finalized . However, Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones has expressed optimism about the negotiations, stating, “We’ve had good visits with him and feel good about where we’re headed” .

Parsons, entering the fifth year of his rookie contract with a guaranteed salary of $24 million for the 2025 season, has indicated a willingness to work with the Cowboys to reach a mutually beneficial agreement. He has expressed a desire to complete a new deal before free agency to help the team “attack the offseason” and maintain roster continuity . Parsons has also suggested he is open to a contract that allows the team to retain other key players, stating, “I don’t need $40 million per year. I need to be somewhere where I can have a lake house” .

While no agreement has been finalized, both the Cowboys and Parsons appear committed to reaching a deal that secures his future in Dallas. Jones emphasized the team’s desire to keep Parsons, stating, “We love Micah. I can’t imagine there’s a scenario where he’s not wearing a star on his helmet” .

As negotiations continue, the Cowboys aim to balance financial constraints with the goal of retaining one of the league’s most dominant defensive players. The outcome of these discussions will significantly impact the team’s roster and salary cap management moving forward.
