Twin defensive ends Darryl and Mandrel Desir have formally decommitted from Florida State and declared their commitment to Auburn, picking the Tigers over elite teams Alabama and Texas in a significant recruiting victory for Hugh Freeze and the Auburn Tigers. The twin brothers, sporting Auburn hats, were met with thunderous applause from friends, family, and local supporters during a packed event on Friday morning at their high school auditorium in Auburn, where the decision was made public.

Originally from Miami, the Desir twins just transferred to an Alabama prep school and are considered one of the best defensive lineman in the 2025 class. Throughout their high school careers, Darryl (6-foot-5, 245 pounds) and Mandrel (6-foot-4, 250 pounds) have been dominant on the edge. Together, they recorded 33 sacks and more than 40 tackles for loss in the previous season. They are a problem for opposing offenses because to their undeveloped athleticism, quick first step, and unrelenting drive. Any collegiate defensive coordinator would be thrilled to get them.

“We have been discussing this for some time,” Darryl stated. We thought Auburn was the right place for us. From day one, Coach Freeze, Coach Garrett, and the whole staff made us feel like family. They gave us an idea of what we could become at Auburn, not only as athletes but also as leaders.

“Auburn is close to what we value, not just where we currently reside,” Mandrel continued. We want to help bring that fire back to the Plains, and they are creating something very unique.

Given the fierce competition from Big 12 powerhouse Texas and SEC opponent Alabama, the choice is especially noteworthy. Following yet another appearance in the College Football Playoffs, Alabama put up a strong fight in the closing weeks, with head coach Kalen DeBoer visiting the twins at home to try to influence them. Texas, on the other hand, highlighted its early playing time pitch and aggressive NIL program. However, Auburn’s family culture, developmental focus, and personal touch ultimately prevailed.

This is one of Auburn’s greatest recruiting victories under Hugh Freeze. In addition to adding top talent to the defensive line, which has been lacking after multiple NFL departures, it also demonstrates Auburn’s capacity to contend with national powers for elite talent, particularly within their own state.

“Darryl and Mandrel are the kind of young men who can change a program,” Coach Freeze said in a statement soon after the pledge. In addition to their etraordinary talent, they possess the attitude and work ethic necessary to guide and uplift others around them. We are overjoyed that they will be returning to Auburn.
