Nick Blake, son of Maryland basketball legend Steve Blake, has officially committed to play for the Maryland men’s basketball team. The 6-foot-2 guard from Olympia High School in Orlando, Florida, made his decision public on May 27, 2025, announcing it on social media. His commitment adds a strong personal and historical connection to the Terrapins’ roster heading into the 2025–26 season.

Blake averaged 10.6 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game during his senior year at Olympia. Known for his reliable shooting, he hit 38% of his 198 three-point attempts. His consistency from the perimeter and smart decision-making on the court were key parts of his team’s success. Although not considered a high-profile national recruit, Blake’s skillset and basketball IQ make him a valuable addition, especially as a player with long-term developmental potential.

Initially, Nick had committed to play at Division III Scranton University. However, he later reversed course and opted to walk on at Maryland, where his father became a campus icon. This decision connects past and present, allowing Nick to build his own legacy while honoring a storied one. While his scholarship status has not been confirmed, it’s clear his presence will mean more than just numbers on the stat sheet.

Steve Blake is remembered as one of Maryland’s all-time greats. He started for four seasons, helped lead the Terrapins to the 2002 NCAA championship, and finished as the program’s career assist leader. After Maryland, Steve enjoyed a 13-year NBA career and returned to coaching, including serving as an assistant at Olympia during Nick’s senior year. His influence and experience clearly shaped Nick’s development and decision-making.

Nick’s arrival comes as new head coach Buzz Williams finalizes his first roster at Maryland following a complete offseason overhaul. With Blake’s commitment, the Terps now have a full 15-man squad as they prepare for a new era under Williams. Though Nick may not be an immediate impact player, his work ethic, shooting ability, and legacy bring intangible value.

For Maryland fans, this commitment is more than just a roster update. It’s a symbol of continuity, tradition, and hope. A Blake is back in College Park, and the story continues—one that began with a national championship and now looks to a promising new chapter.
