Luke Montgomery Poised to Become Star of Ohio State’s Offensive Line in 2025

Luke Montgomery’s journey from a highly recruited freshman to a

potential anchor of Ohio State’s offensive line has been one of growth, perseverance, and timely opportunity. After facing early struggles breaking into the starting lineup, Montgomery now appears primed to emerge as a standout leader for the Buckeyes in the 2025 season.

Montgomery came to Ohio State with great expectations as a dynamic and athletic lineman. However, his journey to a starting position was not straightforward. In the 2024 season, he was largely expected to start at right guard but ended up as a backup due to inconsistency. Despite his disappointment, Montgomery persevered, focussing on his technique, consistency, and comprehension of the attacking strategy.

His dedication paid off when he was called into action during one of the season’s pivotal moments. Montgomery was forced to start at left guard in the College Football Playoff Cotton Bowl versus Texas. It was his professional debut, and it came on one of the sport’s grandest stages. Montgomery played all 60 snaps and provided a strong performance, helping to stabilise the offensive line and winning the coaching staff’s trust. His poise and execution in such a high-pressure game demonstrated his willingness to take on a larger role.

Heading into the 2025 season, Montgomery is projected to be a key figure in Ohio State’s offensive front. Coaches and analysts alike view him as one of the top returning linemen, not only because of his talent but also due to his work ethic and leadership qualities. His versatility—being able to play multiple positions across the line—adds further value as the Buckeyes retool their offense under new personnel and schemes.

Montgomery’s tale exemplifies resilience. Rather than becoming frustrated after being passed over early in his career, he focused on his improvement and seizing his opportunity when it arose. Now, as a seasoned and driven veteran, he is expected to anchor Ohio State’s offensive line and lead a group critical to the team’s title hopes.

With another summer of development and a solid playoff performance behind him, Luke Montgomery is no longer merely a promising recruit; he is on course to be one of Ohio State football’s stars in 2025.
