Must work under pressure and keep a straight face.”
Seriously, how many people applied for that job? Were there hundreds of applications? Did aspiring makeup artists and body painters line up for the opportunity? And perhaps the biggest mystery of all—how many of those applications came from women, and how many came from men?
Somewhere out there is a person whose résumé probably includes the unforgettable line: “Applied temporary tattoos and dirt effects to Bruce Springsteen for a photoshoot.” That’s not just work experience—that’s a story you tell for the rest of your life.
It’s one of those behind-the-scenes moments that reminds us how fascinating the entertainment industry can be. Every iconic photograph we admire often has an entire team of people behind it, carrying out jobs most of us would never even imagine existed. Yet those unusual roles help create images that become memorable and timeless.
So yes, every time I see this picture, I have more questions than answers. And honestly, I’m not sure I want the mystery solved.
