MICHIGAN STATE NAMED BEST ATHLETIC PROGRAM IN THE NATION FOR 2025

East Lansing, stand up — history has officially been made.

Michigan State University has been crowned the top overall athletic program in the country for 2025, after completing a year that will go down as one of the greatest all-around performances in NCAA history. No other school in the nation matched what the Spartans accomplished this year across major collegiate sports. Simply put, MSU did it all.

In 2025, Michigan State became the only school in the country to:

🏈 Win a National Championship in Football

🏀 Reach the Final Four in Men’s Basketball

🥎 Advance to the Women’s College World Series in Softball

⚾ Make an NCAA Baseball Regional

🏆 Compete in a Bowl Game

That’s five major benchmarks. One school. No one else even came close.

Let’s break it down.

The Spartan Football team had a storybook season, charging through the regular season undefeated and winning the College Football Playoff National Championship with a dominant performance that thrilled fans and shocked doubters. It marked MSU’s first national title in football in decades and restored the program’s reputation as one of the elite powerhouses in the sport.

Meanwhile, on the hardwood, Tom Izzo once again delivered, guiding the men’s basketball team to another Final Four appearance, further cementing his legacy and MSU’s identity as a March Madness mainstay. Izzo’s leadership and player development continue to set the standard in college basketball.

Then came spring, and the Spartans weren’t done.

The softball team made an exhilarating run all the way to the Women’s College World Series, showing grit, heart, and talent on the biggest stage. Their run captured national attention and energized the MSU community.

Not to be outdone, MSU Baseball qualified for an NCAA Regional, proving that the program is not just competitive, but climbing toward national prominence. And as if that weren’t enough, the football team also earned a bowl game berth, making them one of the few national champions to play a full postseason slate.

Across every season and sport, MSU showed excellence. This wasn’t just a good year — it was a statement. A statement that Michigan State is not a one-sport school. This is a program built on depth, driven by leadership, and powered by student-athletes who compete at the highest level.

From Spartan Stadium to the Breslin Center, from the softball field to the baseball diamond — this was the Year of the Spartan.

Credit belongs to the players, coaches, athletic staff, and the loyal Spartan fan base that packed arenas and stadiums all year long. Their belief, passion, and relentless energy pushed these teams to greatness.

With banners going up and trophies in hand, the message is clear: Michigan State runs college athletics in 2025.

Go Green. Go White. Go Spartans.
