To the city of Dallas, the Mavericks organization, my teammates, and our amazing fans,
As I sit down to write this letter, my heart is filled with gratitude, thought, and deep appreciation. Today, I’d like to talk not only as a basketball player, but also as a man who has discovered purpose, acceptance, and growth in this community.
When I landed in Dallas, I was greeted with open arms. In an era when storylines surrounded me and the spotlight occasionally blazed brighter than it lit, you all decided to see me for who I truly am: a gamer, a devoted father, and a believer in energy, unity, and progress. Grace and belief have not gone unnoticed.
Thank you to the Mavericks organization for giving me the opportunity to be myself – completely, fully, and fearlessly. Mark Cuban, Nico Harrison, and Coach Jason Kidd all trusted in my vision for the game and my ability to contribute to something meaningful. Your constant support has allowed me to take on leadership with calm and purpose.
It’s been an honor to compete alongside my comrades Luka, Tim, Maxi, Josh, and the rest of the squad. We’ve had highs and lows, but we’ve always stayed grounded in brothers. The way we’ve developed together, challenged one other, and held each other accountable has been unique. Playing with such talent and humility has boosted my attitude and game.
And I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to the fans, who are the heartbeat of this city. You have filled the American Airlines Center with unwavering energy, enthusiasm, and belief, even during difficult times. You’ve cheered not just for highlights, but also for hustling plays, team cohesion, and development. That type of love is uncommon, and I can feel it in every jersey, every chant, and every kid in the stands who aspires to put on their sneakers and hit the court.
Dallas has become a part of my trip that I will always treasure. It’s more than just a stop on my career path; it’s where I’ve learnt new things about leadership, balance, and community. Basketball has shown me that it can be more than just a game; it can also be a source of connection, healing, and inspiration.
I want every young person watching to understand that they should never let others determine their own story. Continue expanding. Keep learning. Always be genuine to yourself. The affection I’ve received here in Dallas has further reinforced this fact for me.
This letter is a thank-you. But it is also a promise.
I commit to continue to invest my heart in this jersey, this city, and this purpose. I commit to strive for greatness not only with a basketball, but also through my voice, deeds, and example. And I guarantee that wherever this path takes me, the foundation Dallas helped build will always be with me.
