Islington, London, England — In an epochal and emotional open letter, Leah Williamson, defender and captain of Arsenal Women and England international, extended her profound appreciation to Arsenal FC, the fans, and the entire Arsenal community for their unwavering support, love, and for providing an enabling environment that has significantly fostered the growth of her career through the years.

The letter, released from North London earlier this week, reflects Williamson’s deep connection with the club where she has spent the majority of her footballing life. Having joined Arsenal’s youth system at a young age, Williamson’s development into a world-class defender and respected leader has become a key narrative in Arsenal Women’s recent history.

“To Arsenal, thank you for being the foundation of my journey. From the academy to captaining this great club, every chapter has been written with your support,” Williamson wrote.

She acknowledged the role of the coaching staff, management, medical team, and teammates in helping her navigate both professional highs and personal challenges. The defender has been open in recent months about the setbacks she faced due to injuries, notably missing out on large portions of last season. In her letter, she credited the club’s support system for guiding her through those tough periods.

“When I couldn’t play, you still stood with me. That strength and belief meant everything,” she added.

Williamson also used the opportunity to thank the Arsenal fanbase for their relentless support—both on and off the pitch. She described the connection with the fans as a “lifeline” during moments of self-doubt and physical recovery.

“Your chants, your messages, your presence at every game—it doesn’t go unnoticed. I carry that energy with me every time I step onto the pitch.”

Her open letter further applauded Arsenal’s role in championing women’s football in England and across Europe, highlighting the club’s consistent investment in the women’s game.

“To be part of a club that doesn’t just support the women’s game but elevates it—I consider that a privilege,” she stated.

Leah Williamson concluded her message by reaffirming her loyalty to the club and her commitment to giving everything back to the institution that shaped her both as a footballer and as a person.

“This is not just where I play. Arsenal is where I belong.”
