University of Texas Unveils Ambitious Plans to Transform McCombs Field Into Nation-Leading Softball Venue

The University of Texas has announced bold and transformative plans to upgrade Red and Charline McCombs Field, home to the Longhorns softball program, into one of the premier softball facilities in the nation. In a move that signals the university’s deep commitment to excellence in women’s athletics, the renovations aim to elevate not just the infrastructure but the entire experience of Texas softball—from players to fans.
Work on the massive project is scheduled to commence in early 2026, following the conclusion of the upcoming softball season. The multi-phase plan includes everything from expanded seating and cutting-edge player facilities to premium fan amenities and enhanced media accommodations, all designed to reflect the proud tradition and bright future of Texas Longhorns softball.
A Vision of Excellence
McCombs Field, which first opened its gates in 1998, has long been a respected venue in collegiate softball. However, as programs across the country continue to invest heavily in top-tier facilities, Texas Athletics has made it clear that staying ahead means not just keeping up—but setting the standard.
“This is more than just a renovation,” said UT Athletics Director Chris Del Conte during the unveiling ceremony. “This is about building a championship-caliber environment that matches the excellence of our student-athletes and the passion of our fans. Red and Charline McCombs Field is getting the transformation it deserves.”
Del Conte emphasized that the project will not only provide a state-of-the-art facility for current and
