GRATITUDE: Miami Dolphins Approve $2.5 Million Statue of Iconic QB Dan Marino Outside Hard Rock Stadium

In a powerful gesture of appreciation and legacy-building, the Miami Dolphins have officially approved a $2.5 million project to erect a statue of Dan Marino, the franchise’s most iconic quarterback, outside Hard Rock Stadium. The announcement was made during a press conference held by the organization, marking a historic tribute to the man who redefined quarterback play and became the face of Miami football for nearly two decades.

The statue, expected to be unveiled in 2026, will feature Marino in his signature passing stance—poised, confident, and ready to launch one of his trademark lightning-fast throws. It will be placed prominently at the stadium’s entrance, serving as a permanent symbol of Marino’s impact on the franchise, the city of Miami, and the NFL as a whole.

> “Dan Marino isn’t just a Dolphins legend—he’s a football icon,” said Dolphins owner Stephen Ross. “This statue is more than a monument. It’s a thank-you to a man who gave everything to this organization and inspired millions in the process.”

Marino played 17 seasons for the Dolphins (1983–1999) after being selected 27th overall in the 1983 NFL Draft. He revolutionized the quarterback position with his quick release, unmatched arm strength, and fearless playstyle. Despite never winning a Super Bowl, Marino retired as the NFL’s all-time leader in passing yards (61,361) and touchdowns (420), holding more than 40 records during his career. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2005.

The statue will be designed by a renowned sports sculptor and is being funded entirely through a combination of team resources and private donations. Dolphins CEO Tom Garfinkel emphasized the importance of honoring Marino’s legacy in a way that fans can interact with for generations to come.

> “We want every Dolphins fan, young or old, to walk into Hard Rock Stadium and be reminded of the greatness that built this franchise,” Garfinkel said. “Dan Marino is the foundation of that greatness.”
