Bristol’s Film and TV Industry Delivers £46.6M Economic Boost in 2024–25, Marking a 55% Increase

BRISTOL, UK — Bristol’s film and television industry has reached a new milestone, delivering an impressive £46.6 million in economic impact in the financial year 2024–25 — a 55% increase compared to the previous year, according to figures released by Bristol Film Office.

The growth is attributed to a significant rise in filming activity across the city, with both on-location shoots and studio-based productions contributing to the local economy. The city’s premier facility, The Bottle Yard Studios, played a pivotal role in this success, continuing to attract high-profile domestic and international productions.

The economic impact includes local spend on crew, accommodation, transport, catering, construction, location fees, and other services tied to production. The sharp rise underscores Bristol’s reputation as one of the UK’s most vibrant and reliable filming destinations.

“This 55% year-on-year growth highlights the strength and appeal of Bristol’s screen sector,” said Laura Aviles, Head of Film for Bristol City Council. “We’ve seen a sharp increase in enquiries and bookings at The Bottle Yard Studios, alongside more productions choosing to film on location throughout the city.”

Major productions that contributed to the boom include returning BBC dramas, feature films, and streaming series that made use of Bristol’s diverse architecture, heritage sites, and flexible studio spaces. The continued popularity of The Bottle Yard Studios — including its newer TBY2 facility — has expanded Bristol’s capacity to host multiple productions simultaneously.

The rise also reflects national trends, with the UK film and TV industry experiencing a broader recovery and growth phase following challenges caused by global strikes in 2023 and lingering post-pandemic effects.

The Bottle Yard Studios, owned and managed by Bristol City Council, has become one of the most in-demand production hubs outside London. With nearly 11 sound stages and more than 80,000 square feet of studio space, the facility continues to be a key driver of regional economic and creative growth.

“This isn’t just about numbers,” Aviles added. “It’s about jobs created, businesses supported, and young people inspired to enter the screen industries. Every production that films here leaves a lasting legacy in the local community.”

Looking ahead, the city is expected to maintain its momentum, with future investments planned to enhance its production infrastructure and workforce training programs.

As Bristol continues to shine on screen, its off-screen impact is becoming just as impressive — making it a true engine of economic and creative vitality in the UK’s screen sector.
