AFL TEAM NEWS: Youth Returns Among Six Changes as Carlton Prepares for MCG Showdown

MELBOURNE, VIC — The Carlton Football Club has made a bold selection call ahead of their Round 17 clash against Collingwood, swinging six changes and injecting fresh energy into their lineup with a wave of promising young talent.

As the Blues gear up for the blockbuster match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), they will do so without key senior players Adam Saad and Jack Silvagni, both ruled out due to injury. Saad has entered concussion protocols, while Silvagni is battling groin soreness. Their absence, along with omissions of Jordan Boyd, Alex Cincotta, Billy Wilson, and Lewis Young, has prompted a significant reshuffle.

🔁 Who’s In?

Carlton has recalled a mix of youthful and in-form players from the VFL, headlined by Francis Evans, Ashton Moir, and Marc Pittonet. Young guns Matthew Carroll, Lachie Cowan, and Harry O’Farrell have also earned senior call-ups.

Francis Evans, known for his forward pressure and creativity, forced his way back into contention with a standout VFL performance, recording 24 disposals, three goals, and eight tackles. Ashton Moir, a highly touted youngster, has been rewarded after a string of impressive displays, including a four-goal outing last week.

In defence, Matthew Carroll, Lachie Cowan, and Harry O’Farrell are expected to bring energy and composure to a backline missing some of its most experienced figures. The trio has shown consistent growth in the Reserves and will now be tested on the big stage.

Marc Pittonet’s return to the ruck is a welcome boost, adding physicality and clearance strength in the middle. His presence will be crucial as Carlton aims to win the contest against a Collingwood midfield brimming with firepower.

🎉 Milestone Motivation

Adding further emotion to the contest is Patrick Cripps’s 150th game as Carlton captain. The Brownlow Medallist has been a pillar of leadership for the club, and the team will be eager to rise to the occasion in his honor.

> “We’ve made some tough calls this week,” said Carlton head coach Michael Voss. “But it’s also a chance to give our youth a platform. They’ve earned this.”

📣 Looking Ahead

With finals still within reach, this selection strategy signals both trust in the next generation and a tactical response to adversity. The young inclusions bring speed, energy, and hunger—qualities Carlton hopes will counter Collingwood’s structured game style.
