An Epochal Open Letter from Nick Daicos to the Collingwood Football Club, Its Fans, and the Whole Collingwood Community
To the Collingwood Football Club, our great supporters, and the larger Collingwood family,
As I reflect on my trip thus far, I am filled with appreciation, pride, and deep emotion. Wearing the black and white is more than just putting on a shirt; it is about carrying the weight of a legacy, a tradition, and a community that is passionate about our great game. And being a part of this family since the beginning of my career has been the greatest honor of my life.
Every handshake, chat, and training session at the Holden Centre exuded Collingwood pride. This club provided me more than just a platform; it gave me a home. It gave me meaning. Most significantly, it instilled belief in me. Every coach, teammate, physio, support staff, and mentor has invested something in me, and I carry their influence with me every time I step onto the field.
To our fans, there is no other group like you in sports. Your everlasting enthusiasm, passionate commitment, and deafening cheers have helped me get through every high and low. You have accepted me not just as a player, but as one of your own. The memories we’ve made at the MCG—roaring victories, painful defeats, and memorable triumphs—are carved in my soul. You are the heartbeat of this club, and I am eternally grateful for the love you have shown me and my family.
To the Collingwood community—the people who proudly wear our colors on the streets, the children who dream of one day running onto the ‘G’ like I did, the volunteers, members, and lifelong supporters—you are the reason I strive to improve every day. You remind me that football is more than just a game; it represents connection, identity, and unity.
This letter is neither a goodbye nor a farewell. This is a heartfelt thank you. It’s a recognition that this great atmosphere has affected my development as a player and as a person. I’ve been blessed with chances, tested by difficulty, and motivated by the heritage of those who came before me, particularly my father, whose footsteps I proudly continue.
The voyage ahead is still being written. There is more to accomplish, give, and strive for. And I promise to continue playing with the same passion, devotion, and love that this guernsey deserves.
We’ve already created memories that will last a lifetime. And we’ll chase new glories together.
