A Personal Letter from Coach Doc Rivers to the City of Milwaukee and the Bucks Family
Dear Milwaukee,
I’ve been in a lot of places throughout my career, but I have to say—there’s something different about this city. Something special. And I felt it the moment I arrived.
This past year coaching the Bucks has been one of the most meaningful stretches of my professional life. It wasn’t always smooth—we had our bumps early on, and I take full responsibility for that. But through all of it, what stood out most was the unwavering support, the passion, and the pride that this city and this fanbase carry every single day.
You welcomed me with open arms. And for that, I’m truly grateful.
From the front office to the last seat in Fiserv Forum, I’ve felt your belief. Even during our toughest moments, I could hear the energy in the arena. I saw the jerseys, the signs, the chants. And every time I walked into practice or stepped onto the court, I reminded myself: This matters. These people care.
That belief—your belief—is what drives us. It drives me.
Giannis, Dame, Khris, Brook—these are not just great players. They’re incredible human beings. I’ve had some powerful conversations with these guys. Honest ones. Real ones. That’s the foundation we’re building on. Not just X’s and O’s, but trust. Accountability. Love for the game and respect for each other.
Giannis and I talk often. He’s not just the heart of this team—he’s the heartbeat of this city. And the way Milwaukee rallies behind him, behind us—that’s what makes this place special. You don’t just cheer when we’re winning. You show up regardless. You ride with us. That matters.
And to the people working behind the scenes—our trainers, video team, equipment staff, and office folks—you are the soul of this organization. I see you. I appreciate you.
To the fans: thank you for sticking with us, believing in this group, and giving me a real home in this next chapter of my coaching journey.
We’re just getting started. I feel it. We’ve got something building here. And with your continued support, I believe we can do something great—together.
With love and respect,
Doc Rivers
