As I sit down to write this, I’m reflecting on what has been an incredible journey—one that would not have been possible without the constant support, love, and strength of the Penguins organization and the people of Pittsburgh. From the minute I put on the black and gold jersey till now, you’ve been there—loud, loyal, and endlessly passionate. I am deeply grateful.
To the Pittsburgh Penguins organization, thank you for believing in an 18-year-old Cole Harbour native and allowing him to call this city home. Thank you for fostering an environment that required greatness while also encouraging progress. Your dedication, from our front office to the coaching staff, trainers, and every member of this amazing organization, has influenced my destiny. You not only helped me improve as a hockey player, but you also helped shape who I am today.
To my former and present teammates: we have experienced challenges, successes, heartbreaks, and championships. I’ve been really lucky to work every day with some of the best athletes and people in the sport. Each of you—whether you donned the ‘C’, the ‘A’, or simply walked in silently and left everything on the ice—has helped me rise, pushed me, tested me, and inspired me. Our brotherhood means everything.
To the fans: words cannot express how much your love and loyalty have meant to me over the years. You’ve supported us through dynasties and droughts, cheered till the roof shook at PPG Paints Arena, and displayed your pride everywhere—from Fifth Avenue to the distant reaches of the earth. Your faith in me has been a beacon of light in dark times and a source of fuel in the brightest moments. You transformed Pittsburgh into more than just a place to play; you made it home.
To the city of Pittsburgh, thank you for welcoming me not only as captain, but as one of your own. Your courage, humility, and blue-collar pride reflect what I’ve always tried to embrace on and off the ice. This city taught me that leadership entails showing up every day and gaining respect, not demanding it. You enabled me to develop, lead, and become more than just a player.
Finally, to every little kid who has ever worn a Penguins jersey and dreamed of greatness, never stop dreaming. I once was that kid. I carried that idea with me and made it a reality thanks to the love and strength of the Penguins family.
This path is not over, but moments like this remind me how fortunate I am. Thank you for the affection, memories, and experiences that have shaped my career. I will always keep them with me.
