An Epochal Open Letter by Alex Bregman to the Boston Red Sox, Fans, and the Entire Red Sox Community
Dear Red Sox family,
As I sit down to reflect on my career path and the invaluable support I’ve gotten along the way, I am overcome with gratitude. From the minute I joined this iconic franchise, I felt Fenway’s heartbeat, Red Sox Nation’s passion, and the love of a baseball-loving town. I am writing this letter to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has helped make this journey remarkable.
Thank you, Boston Red Sox organization, for believing in me. You welcomed me into a lineage that dates back generations. Wearing the Red Sox jersey, stepping onto the historic field at Fenway Park, and being a member of this fraternity has been an honor I will cherish for the rest of my life. This group fosters a culture of quality, accountability, and resilience. I’ve evolved not only as a baseball player, but also as a man, because to the amazing leadership and tradition that this franchise represents.
To my teammates, you are family. We’ve been together from spring training to late October nights, through walk-offs and disappointments. Thank you for the memories, laughter, battles, and trust. We have formed a friendship that extends beyond the game. You’ve consistently pushed, supported, and helped me become my best self.
To the coaching staff, trainers, and all of the unsung heroes, your dedication is always appreciated. From early mornings to late evenings, you helped me hone my profession, overcome ailments, and stay psychologically focused over the lengthy grind of each season. Your belief in me has stoked my fire more than words can express.
And to the fans—Red Sox Nation—you are the heart of this adventure. Your cheers resonate in my heart. Your trust, even in difficult times, lifted me up. I’ve heard you in the stands, felt your excitement on the field, and met so many of you who have shared how important this team is to you. Boston’s fans are tough, loyal, and passionately proud—and I wouldn’t have it any other way. You kept me grounded and inspired me to give my all in every game.
Boston, you have become a part of me. This city’s tenacity, pride, and unwavering spirit are imprinted on who I am. Whether we were chasing titles or working through bad times, your affection never wavered.
Being a Red Sox player is a calling, not just a job. And it has been my privilege throughout my career to answer that call.
With all my heart, thank you.
I am forever grateful.
