Breaking News: Texas Tech University Football Head Coach Brent Pry Lands Massive $54 Million Contract Extension

Lubbock, Texas — May 3, 2025

In a major development that signals Texas Tech University’s commitment to long-term football success, Head Coach Brent Pry has agreed to a blockbuster $54 million contract extension, the university announced Saturday morning.

The deal, which spans eight years, cements Pry’s role as the face of Red Raiders football and makes him one of the highest-paid coaches in the Big 12 Conference. University officials cited Pry’s immediate impact on the program, his leadership, and the team’s rising national profile as key reasons behind the lucrative extension.

“This contract reflects the confidence we have in Coach Pry’s vision and the trajectory of our football program,” said Athletic Director Kirby Hocutt. “He’s a tremendous leader, and we believe he’s building something special here in Lubbock.”

Pry, who took over the Red Raiders program in 2023 after a successful stint at Virginia Tech, has quickly won over fans and players with a gritty, defensive-minded approach and a commitment to player development. Under his leadership, Texas Tech posted back-to-back winning seasons and earned a berth in the Alamo Bowl last year.

“I’m honored and humbled by the trust Texas Tech has placed in me,” Pry said in a statement. “We’re just getting started. The support from the administration, our incredible fans, and the Lubbock community has been second to none. I’m excited to continue building something great with our players and staff.”

The contract includes performance-based incentives tied to conference championships, playoff appearances, and academic achievements. Pry will also receive increased resources for staff salaries, recruiting, and facility upgrades—underscoring the university’s all-in approach to football success.

The Red Raiders begin their 2025 season in late August with high expectations, a top-25 preseason ranking, and now, a head coach locked in for the long haul.
