Garrett Greene, West Virginia Mountaineers quarterback, has established a life-changing program to help the most needy residents in his community. Greene unveiled “A Hope Rising Foundation”—a “foundation dedicated to enhancing the lives of children with disabilities in Morgantown, West Virginia.
Greene, who recently made his collegiate debut as one of the Big 12’s most exciting rookie talents, stunned fans and media alike—not with a touchdown pass or explosive run, but with a $400,000 personal donation to kickstart the foundation’s mission of providing free healthcare, basic needs, education resources, and unconditional support to children with disabilities and their families.

Greene outlined the “why” of the effort during a poignant press conference at Milan Puskar Stadium, which was attended by local families, coaches, and medical specialists. “Football has taught me discipline and drive,” Greene explained. “But off the field, I’ve learned that the greatest successes come from helping others. I’ve witnessed personally the tenacity of children with impairments, and it’s time they received the care they need.”
Greene’s declaration comes after he spent the offseason working at local hospitals and disability awareness groups. A visit to a special education institution in Morgantown, where he developed a strong bond with a young kid with cerebral palsy, proved to be the turning point. “He couldn’t speak, but his smile lit up the whole room,” Greene recounted. “That moment transformed me. “I knew I needed to do more.”
The “A Hope Rising Foundation” will focus on providing mobile medical clinics, adaptive equipment, school support programs, and family care packages. Greene also announced plans for an annual summer camp where children with disabilities can participate in athletics, arts, and mentorship alongside West Virginia University athletes and volunteers.
The response from the West Virginia University community was swift and overwhelming. Head Coach Neal Brown lauded Greene’s maturity and leadership, saying, “Garrett is the type of player every coach wishes for. His heart is the same size as his arm. This foundation reflects his ideals, and it will transform people’s lives.
WVU supporters filled social media with admiration, describing the move as “heroic,” “unforgettable,” and “a model for college athletes everywhere.” Former NFL players and Mountaineer graduates also expressed their support, with several promising future gifts to assist in expanding the foundation’s reach statewide.

Greene closed with a powerful message: “We all have a platform. Football is my sport of choice. But what you do with that platform will define your legacy.” If one child smiles as a result of this, I’ve already won.”
Garrett Greene’s act of kindness stands out in a society dominated by stories of controversy and conflict, serving as a reminder that true greatness is found in service, humility, and heart. He’s altering the game with “A Hope Rising Foundation,” not just playing it.
