An open letter from Kim Mulkey to the LSU Tigers, fans, and the entire LSU community.
Dear LSU family,
As I sit down to compose this letter, my heart is overwhelmed with thankfulness. From the time I arrived in Baton Rouge, I felt I was entering something special—something more than basketball, titles, and individual accomplishments. I was joining a family. And today, I’d like to take a moment to thank everyone—the players, the fans, the administration, and the whole LSU community—for your unwavering support, belief in our program, and love you’ve given me throughout this wonderful journey.
Coaching at LSU has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my career; being a part of a program with such a rich history, committed supporters, and excellent student-athletes is an honor that I do not take lightly. You embraced me with open arms from the beginning, and we have collaborated to build something remarkable.
My players, you are the heart and soul of this team. Every day, you bring your devotion, perseverance, and fighting spirit to the court. You believe in the process, accept the difficulties, and hold each other responsible to the high standards we have established for this program. The most satisfying aspect of this trip has been seeing you grow—not only as basketball players, but as strong, confident young women. You inspire me every day, and I am honored to be your coach.
Thank you, LSU administration and leadership, for believing in me and the goal we set for this program. Your devotion to greatness, investment in our student-athletes, and efforts to foster a culture of success have provided us with the resources we need to compete at the highest level. LSU is more than a school; it is a superpower, and I am happy to be a member of a university that prioritizes both athletic and intellectual excellence.
To the entire Baton Rouge community, thank you for making LSU feel like home. Your support goes beyond the basketball floor; you have welcomed our players, coaching staff, and families with open arms. The pride, tradition, and sense of community here at LSU are very unique, and I am pleased to be a part of it.
The voyage is far from over. We’ve accomplished a lot together, but there’s still work to be done, games to win, and history to be made. And I assure you that I will continue to give my best to this program, this university, and this amazing community.
Thank you, LSU family, for your love, support, and trust in our team. The best has yet to come!
With thanks and love,
Kim Mulkey, Head Coach of LSU Women’s Basketball.
