Brooke Wyckoff’s epochal open letter to the Florida State Seminoles women’s basketball team, their supporters, and the whole Seminoles community
Greetings, Seminole Family
I am incredibly grateful as I sit here and think back on the amazing journey I have been fortunate enough to travel with the Florida State Seminoles. The love, support, and faith this community has shown me—not only throughout my time as a coach, but also during my time as a student-athlete—cannot be adequately expressed. This letter is a celebration of all that we have created together as well as a thank you.
I sensed something strong as soon as I set foot on the Tallahassee campus—a spirit, a passion, and a purpose that went beyond basketball. In addition to being accepted as a coach and player, I was also accepted as a Seminole family member. This community was steadfastly committed to me and our program through all the highs and lows, victories and defeats. Support like that transforms you. It makes you a better person as well as a more capable professional.
Thank you to all of the players, past and present, for entrusting me with your growth, aspirations, and hearts. The most fulfilling aspect of my journey has been seeing you develop into champions, leaders, and strong, independent women. Your perseverance, work ethic, and passion for the game have motivated me every day. You are the program’s lifeblood, and I am incredibly honoured to be walking with you.
You have the best energy, fans. Your chants, your applause, and your steadfast presence have filled the Donald L. Tucker Centre. You were there whether we were experiencing success or hardship. You have contributed to the development of a dynamic and supportive atmosphere that attracts prospects, leaves a lasting legacy, and elevates Tallahassee to a unique location in college basketball.
Thank you to the coaching staff, the athletic department, and the administration for having faith in me. Your dedication to the expansion of this program and your encouragement of women’s sports have equipped me with the skills I need to take the lead, be creative, and strive for excellence. Our mutual success has been greatly aided by your collaboration, and I am proud to be a part of an institution that values both character and competition.
As an athlete, mother, coach, and a woman attempting to give back to the game that gave me so much, I want to express my gratitude to the larger Seminole community for accepting me. You’ve demonstrated that there are no boundaries to what may be accomplished when a community is dedicated to supporting one another.
Know that my enthusiasm is stronger than ever as we move forward. The best chapters of this program’s growth are yet to come. I will always be grateful to this community for providing me with the opportunity to develop, lead, and serve. I consider Florida State to be more than just my coaching home. Family is involved.
