commitment from five-star guard Reese Alston, one of the top players in the 2025 recruiting class and son of NBA veteran Rafer Alston.

Standing at 6-foot-5, Reese Alston brings elite scoring ability, athleticism, and high basketball IQ to the Red Raiders. His commitment instantly elevates Texas Tech’s national profile and reshapes expectations for the 2025-26 season.

Alston, who had offers from blue-blood programs like Duke, Kentucky, and UCLA, chose Texas Tech for its culture, development system, and clear belief in his long-term potential as a future NBA player.

Head coach Grant McCasland praised Alston’s maturity and leadership, noting that he fits perfectly into the program’s evolving identity. McCasland believes Alston will contribute immediately and help lead the Red Raiders deep into postseason play.

“My dad gave me the foundation, but Texas Tech felt like the right place for me to grow and build my own legacy,” Reese said during his announcement. “I believe in what Coach McCasland is doing.”

Reese’s father, Rafer Alston—famously known as “Skip to My Lou”—played 11 seasons in the NBA and was an icon in streetball culture. His influence is evident in Reese’s creativity, confidence, and fearless approach on the court.

Reese is known as a two-way player, capable of guarding multiple positions while also leading an offense. Scouts love his feel for the game, ability to create shots, and unselfishness in high-pressure moments.

His addition makes Texas Tech’s 2025 recruiting class one of the best in the country. The Red Raiders now boast a core group that can realistically contend for a Big 12 title and beyond.

Texas Tech has steadily become a destination for elite talent, and landing Alston only cements that trajectory. The program’s blend of player development, competitive culture, and fan support continues to pay dividends.

With Alston leading the charge and surrounded by veteran talent and promising newcomers, the Red Raiders look built for a strong run in the 2025-26 season — and possibly even more after that.
