Indianapolis, Indiana — Caitlin Clark, the Indiana Fever’s superstar, has donated $7.6 million of her own money to convert a historic estate in downtown Indianapolis into a shelter and support center for homeless youngsters. The “Clark’s Court” program is being heralded as a game changer in addressing Indiana’s persistent adolescent homelessness epidemic.
Clark, who is only a few months into her professional career in the WNBA, has already captivated the nation with her electrifying on-court performances. She is now capturing hearts both on and off the court.
“This community has embraced me with so much love and support since the moment I arrived,” Clark said during a press conference that was held outside the property that will be renovated. “I’ve always believed that sports can be a platform for something bigger. There are so many young people right here in Indianapolis who don’t have a roof over their heads, don’t feel safe, or don’t see a path forward. I want to help change that.”
Clark’s Court will be a transitional living facility for young people aged 14 to 24 who are experiencing homelessness or have aged out of foster care. The shelter will accommodate up to 40 residents and will provide more than just a bed—it will offer on-site mental health services, academic tutoring, job training, legal assistance, and mentorship programs. The project is being developed in partnership with local nonprofits, including the Indiana Youth Group and Outreach.
According to the Indiana Youth Institute, nearly 10,000 youth in the state experience homelessness each year, with many being the result of family conflict, abuse, or poverty. Experts emphasize the value of trauma-informed, stable surroundings in interrupting the cycle of displacement and despair.
“Caitlin’s vision extends beyond shelter; she provides dignity, opportunity, and hope,” said Jennifer Ortiz, executive director of Outreach Indiana. “She’s using her platform exactly how we all hope our heroes will — by lifting others up.”
The project has received considerable commendation from the sporting community. Indiana Fever coach Christie Sides described Clark’s announcement as “one of the most powerful moves any athlete can make,” while WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert stated, “Caitlin Clark continues to set a gold standard in leadership, both on and off the court.”
As building begins, Clark’s Court serves as a reminder not only of one athlete’s generosity, but also of what occurs when someone dares to dream bigger than the scoreboard and puts love into action.
