ESPN NEWS: PJ Haggerty is a big transfer; is Kansas State’s roster prepared to handle him?……. See more

Kansas State has made another splash in the transfer portal, landing PJ Haggerty, the nation’s third-leading scorer and a consensus All-American from Memphis. Haggerty averaged 21.7 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game last season, and his decision to commit to the Wildcats—while also withdrawing from the 2025 NBA Draft—instantly raises expectations in Manhattan.

Known for his ability to create offense both on and off the ball, Haggerty provides Kansas State with a legitimate star at the guard position.

This isn’t the first time head coach Jerome Tang has brought in high-profile transfers, and the Wildcats’ roster is shaping up to support Haggerty with a stronger, more versatile lineup.

Tang’s staff secured key additions including Marcus Johnson, a dynamic forward from Bowling Green, and Stephen Osei, a promising junior college frontcourt player. These moves suggest a clear intent to build a team that can both run through and around Haggerty, maximizing his impact while also spreading the scoring load.

Tang is entering his third year at the helm and has also made changes to his coaching staff, bringing in longtime coach Matthew Driscoll as associate head coach. This combination of on-court talent and off-court leadership puts Kansas State in a strong position to rebound from last season’s 16–17 record.

While integrating so many new pieces will take time, the structure is in place for success. Haggerty’s scoring prowess, combined with a reshaped roster and experienced coaching, gives Kansas State a realistic shot at contending in the Big 12.

The Wildcats are no strangers to big additions—and this one could be their most impactful yet. If the supporting cast steps up, PJ Haggerty could help transform Kansas State from a middling squad into a tournament-caliber team with serious upside.
