To the Colorado Avalanche organization, amazing fans, and the entire Avalanche family,
Every athlete’s journey reaches a point where contemplation is as crucial as preparation. As I sit down to write this letter, I am overwhelmed with gratitude, humility, and pride. This message isn’t about statistics or prizes. It’s about the people that believed in me, supported me, and made Colorado more than just a location to play hockey; it’s a place I’m happy to call home.

From the moment I was drafted in 2013, I knew this franchise was exceptional. But I never imagined how much influence this team, city, and community would have on my life. I came here as a teenager, full of hopes and possibilities. Because of the environment surrounding me, I grew up not only as a player, but also as a person, filled with enthusiasm, respect, and a firm belief in our common goal.
To the organization, thank you for believing in me, pushing me, and supporting me through every high and low. Your dedication to creating a culture of excellence enabled me to thrive and grow. I’ve learnt from amazing teammates, incredible leaders, and coaches who saw in me more than simply a player, but a key component of this franchise’s identity. This is not something I take lightly.
To my teammates, past and present, you’ve been my brothers throughout this adventure. We’ve faced challenges together and celebrated victories that will last a lifetime. Winning the Stanley Cup with you will always be one of my proudest accomplishments. But, more than the celebrations and victories, I’ll always remember the daily grind, the locker room banter, the early practices, and the late-night flights.
To the Avalanche supporters, you are the driving force behind all we do. You packed Ball Arena night after night, through rebuilds and championship runs, with an energy that cannot be described—only felt. Your unshakable faith in us, in me, gave me meaning even in the darkest times. You supported me when I needed it, and you celebrated every accomplishment, every change with unrivaled enthusiasm. That connection, that tie, is both rare and amazing. Thank you for allowing me to grow in front of you and with you.

Colorado is more than just the team I play for; it is also my home. The community here has welcomed me with open arms, backed every activity I’ve been involved in, and made me feel like more than simply a gamer. You’ve made me feel like family.
As I look ahead, my commitment to this club and city is stronger than ever. The journey is not over. There’s more to do, more to build, and more memories to make—together.
With my whole heart,
Nathan MacKinnon (#29, Colorado Avalanche)
