Jared Bednar has been selected the winner of the 2025 Jack Adams Award, the NHL’s top coaching distinction, in a moment of joy for the city of Denver and Colorado Avalanche supporters all across the world. The award is given yearly to the coach believed to have made the greatest contribution to his team’s success — and this year, no one exemplified that excellence more than Bednar.

For Bednar, this distinguished award represents the culmination of years of dedicated leadership, resilience, and tactical brilliance. Since taking over as head coach in 2016, he has carefully constructed a powerhouse in Colorado, guiding the Avalanche to consistent playoff berths, a Stanley Cup triumph in 2022, and now a Jack Adams Award that honors the rewards of his long-term efforts.

The 2024-2025 season posed significant problems. The Avs faced roster changes, critical player injuries, and rising fan expectations for another deep playoff run. Throughout it all, Bednar remained a stabilizing presence. His system, which was built on speed, clever puck movement, and defensive accountability, evolved over time, keeping Colorado not only competitive but also dominant.

One of Bednar’s most notable accomplishments this season was the Avalanche’s outstanding performance on the road and in close games. Whether in high-pressure divisional games or tough back-to-backs, Colorado demonstrated discipline and poise, which are hallmarks of a well-coached team. Analysts and players alike applauded Bednar’s calm manner, in-game adjustments, and ability to instill confidence across the locker room.

At the Jack Adams Award ceremony, Bednar chose to recognize people around him rather than himself.

“This award is not for me. It’s about the fantastic group of players who fight for each other every night, the coaching and support staff who keep things running smoothly, and the Denver fans, who never give up on this club. “I am humbled and grateful.”

The honor also emphasizes Bednar’s unique experience. He is one of the few to have won championships at every major North American professional hockey level, having previously coached in the ECHL and AHL. His story is about perseverance, grit, and a firm belief in doing things the right way.

Congratulations, Coach Bednar; Denver celebrates you. 🏆
