Dear Hollywood, fans, and the entire entertainment community,
With profound appreciation, deep thanks, and a heart full of thought, I write to you – not only as an actress, but as a human being changed, stretched, and sculpted by the magnificent turmoil and magic of this industry.
When I first stepped onto a film set, I had no idea what the experience would bring. I simply knew I liked storytelling – the art of assuming another person’s identity, walking in foreign shoes, and exploring the shadows and light within the human soul. You embraced me with open arms, pushed me to go deeper, and allowed me room to grow – not only as an artist, but as a woman discovering her voice.
To Hollywood: thank you. Thank you for the possibilities, magic, reinvention, and risks. You allowed me to play mystics, misfits, the haunted, and the heroic. You provided me roles that defied convention, characters with both strength and tenderness, and by doing so, you let me to explore the most nuanced facets of myself. I am incredibly honored to be a part of this amazing tapestry.
To my admirers, my heart belongs to you. You have backed me across time zones, languages, and genres. You witnessed me wielding evil in Penny Dreadful, descending into lunacy in 300: Rise of an Empire, and navigating beauty and grief in Casino Royale. You believed in me even when I doubted myself. Your messages, art, devotion, attendance at premieres, quiet prayers, and loud shouts have meant more than you could ever realize.
Thank you to the entertainment community, which includes my directors, co-stars, writers, producers, costume designers, cinematographers, crew members, and fellow dreamers. You have buoyed me in ways that words cannot explain. You’ve taught me about discipline, collaboration, courage, and the exquisite anguish of creation. You are my tribe. I’d be nothing without your intellect and faith.
In a business that is ever-changing, unexpected, and often cruel, I have always found refuge in the tales – in the way a script can awaken something sleeping inside, in the way a performance can transcend boundaries, and in the way viewers open their hearts to what we produce. That, to me, is divine.
As I embark on the next phase of my life — with new projects, possibly new jobs behind the camera, and a stronger commitment to meaningful storytelling — I carry with me everything you have given. My roots are here. My passion is as strong as ever. My purpose has never been clearer.
Thank you for allowing me to be Eva — totally, unashamedly, and eternally.
With all of my love and gratitude.
Eva Green
