An Epochal Open Letter from Forward Harry McKay to the Carlton Football Club, Fans, and the Whole Carlton Football Community
To the Carlton Football Club, the incredible Blues fans, and the entire Carlton community,
As I pause and reflect on my journey through this club—through the blood, sweat, and tears—I am overwhelmed with appreciation. It’s impossible to express how grateful I am for every moment, every cheer, every lesson, and every ounce of faith this club and community has instilled in me.
From the moment I stepped into Ikon Park, I knew I had arrived somewhere unique. Carlton is more than just a club. It is a legacy—a tradition founded on passion, pride, and the unwavering pursuit of excellence. It’s where football becomes family and dreams come true. From day one, I was welcomed not just as a player, but as a brother, a teammate, and a Bluebagger through and through.
To my teammates—past and present—you are my brothers in arms. We’ve weathered storms and celebrated victories. You’ve pushed me to grow, held me accountable, and stood beside me in every battle. Our bond goes beyond the field—it’s a lifelong connection forged by respect and shared sacrifice.
Thank you, coaches and staff, for believing in me. Your instruction, coaching, and continuous support helped shape me into the player and person I am today. You recognized my potential before I did, and your commitment in my development has meant more than I can say. You pushed me when I needed it and encouraged me when I stumbled. For that, I am eternally grateful.
To the fans, who are the beating heart of this team. You have taught me what steadfast commitment looks like. Your support remained constant despite the ups and downs. Whether it was a painful loss or an exhilarating victory at the MCG, your voices echoed with pride. You have made me feel seen, heard, and loved. You reminded me that wearing the Navy Blue is a privilege and an honor that entails a responsibility to give my all every time I put on the guernsey.
To the Carlton community—the people behind the scenes, the members, the volunteers, and the children in the audience—you are the heart of this club. Your enthusiasm drives all we do. I’ve been really fortunate to develop not only as a footballer, but also as a human being, thanks to the environment you’ve helped establish. A culture of belief, resilience, and unending support.
This letter is a thank you, not a goodbye. A celebration of what has been shared and a promise of what is to come. We aren’t completed. The greatest is still ahead. The fire in my heart is burning stronger than ever, and I will continue to give my best for this guernsey, my teammates, and all of you.
