LUBBOCK, TX — Texas Tech University has officially announced a monumental $242 million South End Zone expansion of Jones AT&T Stadium, a groundbreaking development that is set to transform the home of the Red Raiders into one of the most elite football venues in the country.
More than just a renovation, this bold investment represents a defining moment in the university’s athletic history — one that reaffirms Texas Tech’s commitment to competing at the highest levels of college football and creating an unrivaled atmosphere for fans, players, and recruits.
“This project is a game-changer for Raider Nation,” said Athletic Director Kirby Hocutt. “We are building more than a stadium — we’re building a football fortress in the heart of West Texas. This expansion positions Texas Tech at the forefront of the Big 12 and sets a new standard for excellence across college football.”
The $242 million expansion, slated for completion by the start of the 2025 season, will include:
A fully reconstructed South End Zone, closing off the stadium’s horseshoe shape and dramatically enhancing crowd intensity and noise.
Luxury suites, club seating, and loge boxes that will provide fans with modern, upscale game-day experiences.
A new football operations center, complete with advanced sports performance and recovery areas, team meeting spaces, recruiting lounges, and a brand-new locker room designed to rival any in the nation.
Cutting-edge fan engagement and digital experiences, including massive new video boards, in-seat technology, and upgraded concessions and amenities throughout.
At the heart of the renovation is a vision to not just improve the stadium’s physical structure, but to elevate the entire Texas Tech football culture — enhancing the environment for both athletes and the fanbase.
“This is how you build a championship program,” said head coach Joey McGuire. “Facilities matter. Recruits notice. Fans feel it. This is a bold, fearless statement that we’re here to dominate the new Big 12 and beyond.”
The funding for the project is being generated through a combination of private donations, including several major gifts from Texas Tech alumni and longtime supporters, along with athletic department revenue. No public or student tuition dollars are being used.
The announcement comes at a time when the college football landscape is rapidly evolving, with conference realignment, NIL dynamics, and national competition placing pressure on programs to invest heavily in infrastructure. Texas Tech’s proactive approach is already drawing attention from analysts who believe the Red Raiders are positioning themselves as a top-tier destination in the modern era.
Jones AT&T Stadium, long known for its raucous game-day energy and loyal fan base, is about to become even more formidable. When the dust settles in 2025, the South Plains won’t just have a football team to rally behind — it will have one of the most intimidating venues in the sport.
Get ready, Raider Nation. The rise is real, and the fortress is coming.
