GRATITUDE: Mercedes-Benz Approves $2.5 Million to Erect Statue of Legendary Racer Lewis Hamilton Outside Brackley Headquarters
In a powerful and historic tribute, Mercedes-Benz has approved a $2.5 million budget to commission a life-size statue of Formula 1 icon Lewis Hamilton. The monument will be placed outside the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team’s headquarters in Brackley, United Kingdom — the site where Hamilton forged the most successful period of his illustrious career.
Lewis Hamilton, a seven-time Formula 1 World Champion, secured six of those titles with Mercedes, becoming a global symbol of excellence, determination, and advocacy. The statue will serve not only as a celebration of his on-track dominance but also as a lasting symbol of his impact on motorsport, culture, and social progress.
Mercedes-Benz CEO Ola Källenius spoke about the decision, calling it “a fitting and permanent tribute to a driver who has not only redefined success on the track but also challenged norms and inspired millions off it. Lewis Hamilton embodies the spirit of Mercedes — performance, innovation, and a drive for positive change.”
The statue, currently in development by a leading British sculptor, will depict Hamilton in one of his signature celebratory poses: raising his fist in triumph while holding his helmet. The statue will rest on a granite base engraved with his championship years (2008, 2014–2015, 2017–2020), his record-breaking achievements, and key quotes reflecting his work in diversity, inclusion, and environmental advocacy.
Lewis Hamilton responded with heartfelt appreciation:
> “This is beyond anything I ever expected. Mercedes has been my home for over a decade, and together we’ve made history. To be honored in this way, at the heart of the team’s legacy, is incredibly moving. I hope it stands not only as a reminder of what we achieved, but as an inspiration to the next generation — to dream big, work hard, and always stand up for what you believe in.”
The statue will be installed at the main entrance of the Brackley campus, where thousands of team members, fans, and guests pass each year. It will be unveiled in 2026, aligning with the introduction of a new era in Formula 1 regulations and technology — symbolizing both Hamilton’s legacy and the future of Mercedes in motorsport.
Team Principal Toto Wolff added: “Lewis changed the game. He’s not just the most successful driver in our team’s history — he’s a pioneer and a role model. This statue will remind us daily of his contribution and the values he brought to our team.”
The racing world, fans, and the wider public have welcomed the announcement as a well-deserved honor for one of sport’s greatest legends.
