JUST NOW: Tua Tagovailoa Commits $3.6 Million to Build Shelter for Homeless Youth in Miami

In a powerful act of compassion and leadership off the field, Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has officially committed $3.6 million to transform a large residential property in Miami-Dade County into a state-of-the-art shelter for homeless youth. The initiative, announced earlier today by the Tua Foundation, aims to offer safe housing, educational resources, and emotional support for vulnerable young people across South Florida.

Tua, who has long expressed a deep commitment to community service, described the shelter as a way to “give hope and direction to the next generation” and ensure that “every child has a chance to feel seen, valued, and safe.”

> “This city has welcomed me with love and support since day one,” said Tagovailoa during the announcement ceremony. “This is my way of giving that love back—by creating a place where kids can find safety, opportunity, and a path forward.”

The facility—expected to open by mid-2026—will feature 20 private living quarters, a community kitchen and dining area, academic tutoring rooms, mental health counseling services, and an indoor sports/recreation center. It will be run in partnership with local non-profits, including Miami Bridge Youth & Family Services, and is expected to serve up to 60 at-risk and homeless youth annually.

Tagovailoa’s foundation will cover the cost of both the property acquisition and its renovation. The Miami Dolphins organization has pledged additional logistical support, with plans for players and staff to volunteer at the shelter throughout the year.

> “Tua’s heart is as big as his talent,” said Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel. “He’s setting an incredible example—not just for our team, but for the entire NFL.”

Community leaders, youth advocates, and city officials have also praised the initiative. Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava called the donation “a transformative gift that will change lives,” while local youth advocate Marcus Powell said, “What Tua is doing goes beyond football—it’s about legacy, purpose, and real impact.”

This project adds to Tagovailoa’s growing philanthropic resume. Through the Tua Foundation, he has funded scholarships, health clinics, and disaster relief efforts in Hawaii, Alabama, and Florida. But the quarterback says this shelter is “the most personal and important” project of his life.

> “Every young person deserves a shot,” Tua said. “And I’ll keep showing up to make sure they get it.”

The shelter will break ground this fall.
