JUST NOW: Dolphins QB Zach Wilson Donates $3.6M to Build Shelter for Homeless Youth in Miami

MIAMI, FL — Miami Dolphins quarterback Zach Wilson is making headlines off the field today with an act of generosity that’s capturing hearts across the country. In a powerful gesture of compassion and community commitment, Wilson has pledged $3.6 million to convert a residential property in Miami into a state-of-the-art shelter for homeless youth.

The project, backed by Wilson’s newly launched “Second Chance Foundation,” will provide housing, meals, mentorship, education support, and mental health services for homeless teens and young adults aged 13–21 in the greater Miami area.

> “No kid should be sleeping on the street,” Wilson said in a heartfelt statement. “I’ve been blessed in my life, and now it’s my turn to help others find stability, hope, and opportunity.”

The shelter—slated to open in early 2026—will include space for up to 40 residents, with on-site counselors, a 24/7 support team, career training programs, and access to local school and GED partnerships. Wilson’s donation will fully cover the cost of the building, renovations, and two years of operations.

> “This isn’t just a donation—it’s a lifeline,” said Dr. Maria Velasquez, director of the Miami Youth Housing Initiative, which will help manage the facility. “Zach is giving these kids a chance to feel safe, supported, and seen.”

Wilson, who joined the Dolphins in a high-profile move earlier this year, has quickly embraced the Miami community both on and off the field. Known for his calm demeanor and work ethic, he’s also been quietly volunteering at youth shelters and community events since arriving in South Florida.

According to sources close to the team, Wilson became especially passionate about youth homelessness after meeting a former high school football player who had been living in his car after aging out of foster care.

> “That story stuck with him,” said Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel. “Zach’s always been someone who leads by example, and this is just another chapter in that story.”

Fans, players, and city leaders have all praised the move, with #ZachCares and #SecondChance trending on social media just hours after the announcement. Miami Mayor Francis Suarez called the gesture “one of the most meaningful acts of philanthropy by an athlete in recent memory.”

As the Dolphins continue their push toward a playoff season, Wilson’s impact is now being felt far beyond the field.

> “Football is my passion,” Wilson said, “but helping people—especially kids with nowhere else to go—that’s my purpose.”
