“I’ll be honest, when I first met Tom, I wasn’t sure about him. He was not precisely my type. At the time, I was completely focused on my profession and my aspirations, with no regard for relationships. Tom, on the other hand, possessed a larger-than-life persona. He was confident, personable, and clearly had a reputation that preceded him. But I wasn’t sure how to read it all.
Regardless, something about him drew me in. Perhaps it was his unwavering energy or the fact that he seemed so enthusiastic about everything—his players, his business, his family. Over time, I understood that beneath that gruff, lively façade was a genuinely loyal and fiercely loving man. He cared in ways that most people don’t realize. He paid attentive. He remembered the tiny things. Most importantly, he made me feel like I mattered, not just as a partner, but also as a person.
What genuinely drew me over was Tom’s treatment of others. He sees them all, whether they are a famous athlete, a team manager, or someone mopping the arena floors. He values them. And he brings the same genuineness home. He has never pretended to be someone he is not, and his honesty has served as the cornerstone for our relationship.
We’ve been through a lot—long seasons, sad losses, fantastic victories, and life outside the spotlight that few people get to experience. And through it all, Tom has remained steadfast in his commitment to his family and to doing things the right way, even when it is difficult.
Being married to Tom Izzo has not always been simple. There have been difficulties, moments of tiredness, and times when the world appeared too loud and too fast. Throughout it all, we’ve stood together. We have grown. And we’ve raised a wonderful family, grounded in religion, love, and the notion that no dream is too large if you work hard and stay true to yourself.
Looking back, I’m glad I gave that boisterous, ambitious, and enthusiastic young coach a chance. Because underneath all of the drama and sensationalism, there is a man with the largest heart I’ve ever met. A man who still kisses me goodbye every morning, inquires about my day, and never allows a win—or a loss—to distract him from what is actually important.
