In a season marked by guts, commitment, and elite-level skill, the West Virginia Mountaineers women’s basketball program has added another proud chapter to its illustrious history. For the fourth time in history, three Mountaineers have been awarded All-Americans in the same season, a rare and distinguished accomplishment that demonstrates the program’s growing national importance and consistent excellence.
The trio — JJ Quinerly, Jordan Harrison, and Kylee Blacksten — not only led West Virginia to one of its most successful seasons in recent memory, but they also won the hearts of fans around the country with their relentless play, unity, and leadership. Their cumulative contribution was critical in propelling the Mountaineers into the NCAA Tournament spotlight and setting the standard for future generations.
JJ Quinerly: The Engine of the Team.
Junior guard JJ Quinerly has long been a standout in the program, but this season she took her game to the national level. Quinerly was known for her scoring ability, defensive tenacity, and unwavering composure, averaging 19.2 points, 4.8 assists, and 2.5 steals per game. Her ability to take over at crucial moments and inspire her teammates earned her First-Team All-American honors, which were well-deserved for one of the most complete guards in the country.
Head coach Mark Kellogg described her as “the heart of our team,” stating, “JJ is a leader in every sense of the word — on the floor, in the locker room, and in the way she handles herself under pressure.”
Jordan Harrison, The Rising Star
Jordan Harrison, a freshman guard, rapidly emerged as one of the most fascinating newcomers in the Big 12 and beyond. Harrison had a court vision beyond her years and a tough commitment to both ends of the floor, averaging 13.5 points and 6.1 assists per game. Her contributions earned her Second-Team All-American honors and a berth on almost every All-Freshman team in the country. Many in the program and throughout the league regard her as the future face of women’s college basketball.
Kylee Blacksten, the Defensive Anchor
Forward Kylee Blacksten has emerged as a powerhouse in the paint this season, averaging 11.7 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks per game. Her ability to defend the hoop and dominate the boards contributed significantly to the Mountaineers’ success. She received Third-Team All-American accolades and was generally acclaimed for her defensive consistency, aggressiveness, and leadership.
A Historical Milestone
This is only the fourth time in program history that West Virginia women’s basketball has produced three All-Americans in the same season. The prior occurrences occurred in 1992, 2010, and 2014, all during notable and breakthrough seasons for the Mountaineers. This latest distinction establishes the 2024-25 team as one of the program’s all-time greats.
