Netflix officially announced the premiere of an exciting new documentary about the time, trials, and legacy of the original members of Molly Hatchet.

Netflix has officially announced the imminent broadcast of a dramatic new documentary chronicling the rise, reign, and enduring influence of the founding members of the renowned band Molly Hatchet. The documentary “Flirtin’ with Legacy: The Molly Hatchet Chronicles” offers a riveting and passionate look at the events, hardships, victories, and songs that defined a generation and continue to inspire millions around the world.

The film, which will have its global premiere this fall, delves deeply into the band’s origins in Jacksonville, Florida, in the late 1970s—a period of musical revolution and Southern pride. Molly Hatchet, known for their hard-charging guitar riffs, outlaw spirit, and unforgettable anthems like “Flirtin’ with Disaster” and “Dreams I’ll Never See,” carved out a separate position in rock history with a style that blended boogie, blues, and country with gritty tenacity.

The documentary, created in collaboration with the families of the original band members and longtime collaborators, will include never-before-seen archival footage, intimate interviews, and heartfelt tributes to the founding members—Danny Joe Brown, Dave Hlubek, Duane Roland, Steve Holland, Banner Thomas, and Bruce Crump—whose contributions forever shaped the landscape of Southern rock.

“Flirtin’ with Legacy isn’t just a music documentary—it’s a love letter to the soul of American rock and the men who gave everything to keep that soul alive,” said the project’s director, Casey Whitman, who won an Emmy. “This is a story of brotherhood, creativity, loss, resilience, and the burning desire to leave a mark that time cannot erase.”

The documentary also digs into the band’s hardships over the years, including as personal struggles, the cost of fame, and the terrible deaths of several of its founding members. The video pays tribute to their memories with dignity and affection, capturing not just their musical brilliance but also their humanity, humility, and sense of humor.

The film also features current musicians influenced by Molly Hatchet, ranging from country rockers to heavy metal giants, who share anecdotes on how the band’s raw sound and working-class mentality paved the way for generations of artists. “They were warriors with guitars,” remarked one of the musicians in the movie. “They didn’t just play—they roared.”

Netflix said the documentary will be backed by a special digital soundtrack release, including remastered live performances and rare acoustic sessions from the early days of the band. Fans can also expect supplementary material and behind-the-scenes information available exclusively through the streaming platform.

As the world prepares to commemorate Molly Hatchet’s tremendous legacy, “Flirtin’ with Legacy” serves as a reminder that music is timeless—and the tales behind the songs are as crucial and strong as the riffs that made them famous.
