Luis Castillo’s epochal open letter to the Seattle Mariners, their supporters, and the entire Mariners community
To the Mariners Family I Love,
I can’t express how grateful I am to the entire Seattle Mariners organisation, the fans, and this amazing town for their support during my time here, as I sit down to compose this letter. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all of the possibilities and affection I have gotten since joining this organisation.
I was embraced by my teammates, the coaching staff, the front office, and, most importantly, the Mariners’ ardent and committed supporters as soon as I landed in Seattle. You gave me a sense of belonging and helped me grow as a person and a player. Every pitch, inning, and game turned into a chance for me to develop and return the favour to the community that had supported me so generously.
This experience was genuinely unique because of the excitement at T-Mobile Park, the steadfast support during both victories and setbacks, and your sincere passion for baseball. For you, the journey we were on together was more important than the game. I have never felt more a part of anything so significant than when we experienced the highs and lows together. I gave you everything I had on the mound because you let me be myself.
I would like to express my gratitude to the Mariners front office and coaching staff for their belief in me and for creating an atmosphere that has shaped me into the pitcher I am today. Your advice and resources have been really helpful to me as I’ve grown. Working with such committed and knowledgeable people who inspire me to be my best self every day has been an absolute honour.
To my current and former teammates: You are the team’s lifeblood. We have struggled together, and I have been able to overcome every obstacle because of your friendship and support. I will always value the relationships we have formed.
I want to express my gratitude to the Seattle Mariners supporters for making my stay here so special. Your enthusiasm, devotion, and steadfast support have been the impetus behind each performance. I will always cherish the memories of this voyage, and it has been an honour to pitch for you.
I will always think of Seattle as my second home as I look to the future. No matter where my profession takes me, the love and support I’ve gotten from everyone of you will continue to be a beacon of hope.
With sincere appreciation and deference,
Castillo Luis
