The Kansas City Chiefs may be trying to strengthen their roster’s poor areas after losing in the Super Bowl the previous season.
Their secondary, which finished the season in the lowest half of the league in terms of passing yards allowed, is one area that needs improvement. They were able to expand their secondary in free agency by giving up slightly under 220 passing yards per game.
Justin Simmons, a former safety for the Atlanta Falcons, is arguably one of the most prominent players who has yet to sign a contract and who could be of assistance to the Chiefs.
Last summer, he signed with the NFC South team, but they haven’t taken any action to re-sign the seasoned safety. The Chiefs could take full advantage of that. During his time with the Denver Broncos, Simmons rose to fame and became a rival of Patrick Mahomes. He completed 2024 with 62 total tackles, including two for a loss. Additionally, he demonstrated his ball-hawk abilities by defending seven passes and recording two interceptions.
The Chiefs might use someone to step in and cover for safety Justin Reid, who departed them earlier this offseason when he signed a free agent contract with the New Orleans Saints.
Signing a veteran and previous Pro Bowl player like Simmons may be a very interesting possibility for the defending AFC champs if they decide to go to free agents for some secondary help.
