No. 5 LSU Shuts Out Utah and Notre Dame on Day Two of the Judi Garman Classic

Fullerton, Calif. – The No. 5/6 LSU Tigers showcased their dominance on the second day of the Judi Garman Classic, securing back-to-back shutout victories against Utah and Notre Dame. These wins improve LSU’s season record to 17-1.
Game 1: LSU vs. Utah
In a tightly contested match, freshman pitcher Jayden Heavener delivered an outstanding performance, pitching a complete game shutout. She recorded 11 strikeouts, allowed only three hits, and issued three walks over seven innings. Heavener’s resilience was evident as she struck out the side in the seventh inning to seal the victory.
The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the sixth inning. Tori Edwards initiated the offense with a leadoff double to left field. McKenzie Redoutey followed with an RBI double, bringing Edwards home for the first run. Subsequently, Sierra Daniel singled, and a throwing error allowed Redoutey to score, giving LSU a 2-0 lead.
Game 2: LSU vs. Notre Dame
The Tigers’ offense exploded early against Notre Dame, scoring eight runs in the first inning before an out was recorded. This offensive surge was highlighted by McKaela Walker’s three-run home run, her first of the season.
Pitcher Sydney Berzon was exceptional in the circle, throwing a complete game shutout over five innings. She allowed only two hits, struck out seven batters, and did not issue any walks. Berzon’s efficiency was evident as she needed just 55 pitches to complete the game.
Tori Edwards continued her impressive day by hitting a two-run home run in the fifth inning, extending LSU’s lead to 10-0. Edwards went 2-for-4 in the game, scored twice, and tallied two RBIs. Jadyn Laneaux also contributed significantly, going 2-for-3 with an RBI.
